It’s been really amazing to see people sending messages like ‘you make me feel comfortable to be who I am, and to thrive in the world’ and that’s the most amazing to me.” Amandla was drawn to Sarah because, “I recognized her experience as a black girl in a primarily white environment, but also I was really drawn to the script and the director. Miles is really an incredible person. He’s really passionate about filmmaking and telling these really sincere, genuine stories. I feel like his way of looking at film is really beautiful and I was super inspired by it.” When I first got the role, I felt like it was like any other job, however it turned out to be one of the most special experiences that I will never forget. I am thankful to play a character that not only stays true to himself, but also is such a good friend and companion to others. I really appreciate that Lucas carries himself like a gentleman. He gives great advice to his friends and is always there for them when they need him. One of the many things that will forever resonate with me is Lucas’ funny one liner jokes and dance moves — I am so glad that I got the opportunity to showcase Lucas’s good natured and likable personality on screen for you all. We get to see a little bit more of her vulnerability and what's actually going on, especially in that tree house scene in the second movie with Lara Jean. I thought the relationship between Gen and Lara Jean was so special. Growing up, I feel like as young women we kind of got the message that girls should be played against each other, like we're always in some sort of competition. But it's really that tree house scene... I just imagine if I was the mean girl, how influential that would be for me. I think Gen has a lot of internal work to do, and I think that will come with time as she experiences new people and situations and starts her healing process. She's on the right path.
